Bug Description

The hilarity begins at 48.37s after which Mir never recovers and failure is piled upon failure, not to mention the mirth leading up to that point.

Chris,

Can you elaborate on what the problem is? Those kernel messages look purely informational (and indecipherable) to mere mortals.

Chris,

Can you point out the particular lines from dmesg which show something is messed up?

Each request for an unknown encoder is a minor wtf. The kernel tells you the connector is disconnected, and then you lookup the invalid encoder. And why so many?

The real issue here is that Mir is told that the flip queue is already busy and it throws an untrapped exception (WTF!) rather than handling an expected error. After that recovery is fubar.

Are you saying Mir throws:
        BOOST_THROW_EXCEPTION(std::runtime_error("Failed to schedule page flip"));
?

That's the one that causes the blank screen. Next up: that it takes almost 1s to do a 16ms task...

Probably not the same issue, but as of 0.1.2+14.04.20131128.1-0ubuntu2, xmir fails to start for me. Had to disable xmir to start. Can't find any obvious error in a log file, suggestions?

Gerry,
Please log a new bug with "ubuntu-bug mir". And if that fails to attach logs, then please also add a distro task to it: "mir (Ubuntu)" and then run "apport-collect <newbugnumber>".

XMir 1.0 (the old Xorg extension) is now deprecated and is not being maintained or fixed. It is replaced by the new 'Xmir' binary (package 'xmir') introduced in Ubuntu 15.10 wily.

Is there any way to reproduce this bug without the old Xmir?
