Bug Description

I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 and am regularly uploading software updates.

My recent problem is:
I can not type in dash home. The text area is blank and is not editable.
However, i can still choose symbols with the mouse in dash home and run listed applications.

Did the inability to type in dash correspond directly with the update? Or did it happen after a software update.

If the issue corresponded with the update, release-upgrader will be the most likely culprit.

I find myself affected by this bug as well.

New installation of 13.10. However I have some old theme files from a different distro where I ran Gnome 3.8.

To add further, I can paste into the dash search box, but I cannot type into it.

@Travis: i tried to paste into the dash search box, and it worked for me as well. needless to say, i still can not type into the box.
@Quinn: i am not sure about when/how it happened. i realized it by coincidence.

affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

Same here too.
But there's no problem in Guest Session.

I had the same problem. I also noticed that I couldn't write accents, so I checked:

System settings/Text entry

And the "Input sources to use" list was empty. I added "Spanish" and I was able to type in the dash again.
