Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Steps to reproduce:
1) go to "system > preferences > screensaver"
2) uncheck "lock screen when screensaver is active"
3) close
Then, when the screensaver goes on and you move the mouse or press a key to resume your session, you are prompted for your password even though the checkbox in step (2) is unchecked.

I solved this by changing the gnome-power-manager options like so: I opened gconf-editor, navigated to "/apps/gnome-power-manager/" then unchecked "lock_on_blank_screen" and checked "lock_use_screensaver_settings". so now the screen locking follows the behavior set in the screensaver gui as it should have in the first place.

This is a fairly small bug, and the solution is to make sure "lock_use_screensaver_settings" is checked by default in Gnome.

I've tried several different screensavers and haven't been able to reproduce this bug. Has anyone else been able to get the result so that we can confirm this?

Just an fyi:
I looked it up online before posting, and i have to agree with you that it's not a common error. I couldn't find anything on google.

It doesn't matter which screensaver i use, though. It happens with all of then. That is, until i fixed the gconf entry as stated earlier.

It's strange, thought, because it happened on this computer (a Lenovo T60 laptop) under a clean ubuntu 6.10 installation and a clean 7.07 as well.Iit also happened on my old Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop under 6.10 (I haven't tried with 7.04).

I haven't seen it happen on other ubuntu installs. I just thought I'd post it here so the Ubuntu maintainers would make sure the default is not "lock_use_screensaver_settings = false".

I understand. I haven't come across any descriptions that are similar in nature through forums, launchpad or otherwise. I'll leave the bug assigned as incomplete to see if anyone else comes forward for the issue, though should we have nothing in a day or so; the bug may need to be invalidated.

Justin

I can reproduce this in the gutsy with the latest updates (the gnome screensaver lock behavior changed a bit lately - it may be related). It may also be related to Bug #3660 - a very old one, so its probably not the same problem.

The problem is that changing the "lock screen when screensaver activated" doesn't have any effect.
