hmm,
did u play around with the libc6 package? or any peculiar system package? or this error just popped up by itself our of nowhere?

Thank you for the bug report, but I'll have to close it if you don't provide a few more details on how to reproduce it..
If we fail to reproduce the bug, there's a really low chance of actually fixing it, and thus the bug should be closed.

Gutsy Gibbon...

I Finish install the Gutsy on LIVE CD and reboot on the Hard Disk. He said have software updates and I click to update, then this happened.

PS: If you speak portuguese, its better to me. My original langue is Porutuguese of Brazil.

I had the same issue.
Installed the beta release of gutsy from live cd.
Went for updates (partial upgrade) as it was suggested.
After downloading the error showed up.

I also experienced the same issue as lukisi. New install of gutsy from live cd to hard drive. This was the first attempt to upgrade the system.

I decided to install the upgrades so I start by clicking the orange icon and it says to do a partial upgrade so after downloading all the upgrades I get this error package "update-manager failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:I wasn't able to locate file for the libc6 package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package."

Reopening on the grounds that a coupel of people get this error.

Does the error go away if you click on "check" and then install again?

Yes, the error goes away the very next time I do un update.
Also, with Ubuntu 7.10 RC and a fresh install I did not
experience the same issue.
It works for me.
