And the Chinese in the tweet should be "罗圈腿夹个浮板真费劲=.=! (at 浦东游泳馆源深分馆) ". See here: https://twitter.com/LueHai/status/370702668219432960

Quite strange that some characters show up but not others! I was expecting them all to be blank.

The Friends app is no more, but this would be useful to test using for example some other apps in the latest Ubuntu Phone images. Marking Incomplete since I'm not sure how to test it without given exact steps using a current image.

A lot has changed, including Qt 5.3.2 release in the latest vivid (devel-proposed) images, 5.3.0 in the rtm stable images.

I would like to help with the reproducing steps. Please tell me what I can do besides providing the link to that tweet.

I did not get the Friends app working anymore on the latest Ubuntu development version (15.04).

I made the attached QML test application that does show the characters correctly. I would assume it's true also for any other Qt application, which would point to the direction of this bug being fixed.

If you download the attachment, and install a package called "qml", you should be able to run the app on the command line with "qml testcase.qml". You can even use the key Alt-F2 and type the command in there, if you make sure the testcase.qml is in the Home folder.

This attachment shows the text being rendered correctly.

I, as a Chinese, confirm the characters are rendered correctly in the screenshot attached to @timo-jyrinki 's comment #9 .

Based on the (old) comment #10 marking as fixed. Any problem with font rendering is likely due to Qt or Qt <-> system integration and not the app itself.
