Bug Description

Wine packages from the ppa repository do not install properly. This includes all packages for versions 1.5 and 1.6.

Wine says the problem should be reported here.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33804

Ubuntu says the problem should be reported in wine, per the following message:

The problem cannot be reported:
This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party package and try again.

???

I have 13.10 with all upgrades, and a clean Ubuntu install. In fact, I re-installed the whole system. Before I did it, wine upgraded to 1.5. Now it does not, indicating that there has been a regression.

This would not be a problem; however, wine 1.4 no longer recognizes sound properly. This is a regression.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1214851/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Please do not report bugs against PPAs on launchpad. PPAs are third party repositories that are not endorsed nor supported by Ubuntu. The correct place to report PPA bugs is the PPA homepage, which will have the preferred contact point for the PPA provider. Also, to attempt to clear up your confusion, A PPA is a personal package archive. Due to the fact that it is personal (third party) Ubuntu doesn't support it as it doesn't come from one of our official repositories. And therefore the person that would be able to deal with this is whoever put together the PPA, and this would be found by looking at homepage for the PPA.

That homepage is https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa and the person you would get in contact with is Scott Ritchie
