Computer screen goes black and flashes after shutting lid

Bug Description
I have an Acer Aspire One. When I shut it, the screen goes black and flickers when I move the mouse upon opening, no matter what setting I put it on in system settings (Shutdown, hibernate, do nothing). It seems to be a problem in Ubuntu 12.4 and the only solution was deleting lid.sh for some users. I'm not that familiar with systems, so I'm looking for another solution. Until then, I'll just shutdown by clicking :) But I would like to be able to shut it and have it shutdown too, like laptops should.
