Image Importing causes crash

I'm watermarking photo's. After successfully exporting a photo, then attempting to import the next I receive one of the following messages . . . .

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files (x86)\Inkscape.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information

Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now.

- could you attach the file you are trying to import?
- if the file contains links to images, then you should attach those image files as well

The file is always an image file, ( .jpg ).

Problem is reproduced when restarting the program and always on the consecutive second image to be watermarked.

- not reproduced on Windows 7, Inkscape 0.48.4
- not reproduced on Windows XP, Inkscape rev 12472
- the file loads correctly, both as a linked image and as an embedded image.
- could you provide detailed steps to reproduce. For example, are you loading multiple files? How do you load them? Are you linking them or embedding them? Which version of Inkscape? Are you 'open'ing them or 'import'ing them? Are you doing this from the gui or perhaps from a script file?

running Windows 7 (32 bit) and Inkscape 0.48.4, I am unable to reproduce the problem using multiple drag and drops and deletions as described.

- just two quick questions. when you say' Position the two images and export', how is the export done? Are you saving as svg, or as Cairo png, or are you using the option 'Export Bitmap'?
- instead of dragging and dropping, could you try to do a file Import instead? I believe this functions the same as drag and drop, except that the final position may need to be adjusted. The reason I am asking is because there are situations on my machine where drag and drop does not work. For example, if I start Inkscape from a DOS prompt, it appears that drag and drop does not work, while the File Import will still work.

1.) When I save I use the export bitmap option

2.) I tried your advice in using the import option opposed to drag & drop. Unfortunately I get the same outcome, only this time I get 3 imports instead of 2.

well, I am at a loss...
- could you attach the background svg file just before the crash occurs? I am assuming you have some background image that you are dragging new images into. Could you attach that svg file, so that we can have an exact duplicate of what you are doing.

Inkscape 0.91
Windows 7 x64

The problem is "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"

I have encountered the same issue in Inskape.
I have found two version of Microsoft Visual C++ on my system, one was 2005 and the other 2008. I have uninstalled both of them and installed the new 2010 version.

Inkscape worked fine since.

@Alex - Very interesting findings indeed. The Inkscape packages for Windows already provide an msvcr71 dll that should be used by default. But apparently it's not always the case.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to add that I can not import any of my .tif format bitmaps. Very similar crashing as above. except it is simple- opening new svg file and importing straight up crashes Inkscape.

Using windows 7 64 bit. using 32 bit Inscape 0.92.0 r15299

For now i am just converting all my files to PNGs as a solution....

I uninstalled all Visual C++ except 2013 and 2015. no help.

Might this actually have been a duplicate of bug #1467103?

Could you attach a problematic .tif file (preferably to a new bug report)?
This problem might well be unrelated...

Bug #1467103 at the time was not exposed with 32bit devlibs, see comment 5 in bug #1467103. AFAIIK only the 64bit devlibs (for Inkscape 0.91) shipped with external gdkpixbuf loaders.
