Configuring of xorg fails

Bug Description

When installing or using dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg then configuration umits
writing some important information to xorg.conf. The missing information has the
effect that your are only able to run X in 640x480 at 60Hz no matter what
graphics card is installed in the computer.

The missing information is HorizSync and VertRefresh under section Monitor.

HorizSync and VertRefresh do not need to be written out in almost all cases. I
take it you are running an old monitor or such? If so, then this is a duplicate
of #5754.

My monitor is a Sony Multiscan 100SX. Is that what you mean by old?

A comment to bug 12143. It did not make any difference chosing the vesa driver.
