I had this too - and I also can give some info on it:

This happend to me two times in a row (installing Luna 64bit from USB to disk) when I connected to my Wifi prior to the installation. The apt sources seemed to be totally wrecked then in the installed system ("debian sid" package sources anyone?). I think this might be a bug in the installer (as I kind of recall that I had something like this some months ago installing some ubuntu in a VM).

The third install WITHOUT connecting to Wifi before the installation (and thus not having an Internet connection during installation) then left me with a functional system (i.e. the sources seem to be sane and "apt-get update/upgrade" works).

The fix is to edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/elementary.list and change anywhere it says "luna" to "precise"
If you have added any PPAs, you'll need to fix those as well. They live in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
Some of them will need "luna" changed to "precise" and some of them will need "sid" changed to "precise"

If you do the above as suggested by Heath Paddock (heathbar) then Software Center wont load and will crash as soon as it starts up. Not sure why and how to fix that.

There are four entries in two files that need to be changed.

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/elementary.list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/patches.list

change all four references to "luna" to "precise", re-run "sudo apt-get update", should complete without errors, then run "sudo apt-get upgrade"
