Bug Description

Gutenprint 5.1.3 has added support for a lot of the latest Epson printers that are currently either not supported or badly supported by Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

While 5.1.3 would be really nice, if possible the 5.0.1 which is already in gutsy should be backported so that I, and many others, can
use our newer printers with Feisty. I have the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 for example. Don't make me use windows!

I'd also like the Gutsy gutenprint since it supposedly fixes a problem related to the ubuntu bug #79261; in that the version in feisty misses black on some epson printers (c86 in my case); now the Gutsy one is only 5.0.1 but apparently has a fix for this particular problem in ; it's a bit of a show stopper for a commonish printer.

Hi,
Thanks for that build - although it was i386 and I'm x86-64 it did reassure me it would build; so I built 5.0.1 from the gutsy sources and it does seem to fix the black printing problem the feisty version has.

I'm in a similar position to others in this thread. I need 5.0.1 for Epson R380 support - but I'd rather not have to build and integrate the gutsy package (upgrading to gutsy isn't an option at this point, either). As the gutsy package seems to have been backported successfully, and since this was done almost three months or so ago, when can we expect to see it available in feisty-backports?

The Gutsy version is final at this point, so this would be a good time to backport. Someone please edit the bug to reflect the exact version and revision to be backported and then that version will need to be built, installed, and tested.
