Bug Description

I tried this when dual booting Android and Ubuntu touch using MultiROM, which seems to have resulted in both Android and Ubuntu touch being lost! It now just boots Recovery and bootloader...

Edit: just the system/bootloader was lost. I was able to access my data by reflashing stock Android system files using fastboot and reinstalling MultiROM.

Seems like the issue is the same when doing apt-get dist-upgrade inside Ubuntu touch.

This is definitely MultiROM's problem - devs of Ubuntu Touch have repeatedly said that they won't support any kind of multiboot, as much as I'd wish it'd be otherwise. But, it is understandable - multibooting is feature used by very small amount of people and it is difficult to make it portable.

I plan to support "image based updates" in MultiROM (the system-image-cli command), it should be fairly easy to override the target destination, as recovery is used to do the actual update. It is pretty useless to try implementing moving target however, so I'm waiting until the update feature is complete.

The dual boot option referered to for Ubuntu edge/Ubuntu for Android is that some other way to multiboot?

That would be dual-boot which is *planned*, so it would be done where it should be - in the bootloader, and with multiple partitions, instead of hacking it with kexec.

This was fixed on the MultiROM side long ago.
