The problem only exists when I use native burning apps like Brasero, K3B or cdrecord on all Ubuntu versions including Faisty. NeroLinux has no problem with the disk and everything works fine. I have also learned from a colleague which owns the same drive that the problem does not occur on Gutsy Gibbon, and he is able to burn such disks with Brasero etc.

You are using unsupported old software.

Please try again with a recent original cdrecord:

http://cdrecord.berlios.de

Then please run (with the right media in placa) the commands:

cdrecord -atip
cdrecord -prcap

and report the result. If you are using ultra high speed media,
the minimum write speed for this media type is 16x.

-atip will report the media type
-prcap will report the supported write speeds amongst others

The problem has been fixed some time now both on Faisty and Gutsy so It's reasonable to close the thread.
