Bug Description

Yesterday (August 6th, 2013) I came home and saw a software update notification on my Ubuntu Raring 13.04, 64-bit system and applied the update.

I had to go into terminal mode to reboot the system thinking it just needed a reboot to complete the update process. Now I have no working Unity, just a blank desktop - no icons or status bar.

I opened a terminal and typed "Unity" and received a "Segmentation Fault" error (see below). I tried "unity --reset (which I found out is depricated) and "unity --replace" with no results. I also tried "dconf reset -f /org/compiz/" "setsid unity" with no results.

The following is the error I received while trying to run in terminal:

I believe I am using NVidia GTX series graphics card, and I also beleive there was a linux kernel update along with the Unity update yesterday if that info helps.

Confirmed my video card - NVidia GTS 450. Since above error stated : "unity-panel-service: no process found", I removed/purged then reinstalled unity-services with no luck. Unity still not working.

After perusing my software sources, I noticed I added a "Unity-experimental" PPA and I now believe this was the update that has caused my issues. Unity Plugin is "enabled" in CCSM and resetting Unity after all of these changes with "setsid unity" does not work. I followed this forum link with no success either: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2070426&page=2

I am also having the same problem. Unity quit working for me after compiling and installing compiz from source. I have been looking through forums as well and no amount of resetting, replacing or rebooting helps. I keep getting the unity-panel-service no process found.
