Do you by any chance mean print-manager, because printer-applet is not actually installed on your system :P

The scren shots show that this is not system-config-printer.

Please try also system-config-printer, by running

system-config-printer

in a terminal window. If it is not installed, install it with

sudo apt-get install system-config-printer-gnome

Please tell whether this works for you.

no longer affects: system-config-printer (Ubuntu)

Yes works with system-config-printer. But the averge user will not go to terminal and try this. They will goto the default printers widget that shows up in search. Perhaps provide an 'advanced' option which cross-launches system-config-printer from the default printers widget?
