Bug Description

Using the past few Ubuntu 13.10 daily images, installation seemingly goes fine, it reboots onto the Ubuntu login display. Upon attempting to login, the screen turns black, never loading the desktop. Switching to console, I saw the following error at the login prompt from the kernel.

Aug 3 00:12:21 saucy-omap4 kernel: [ 2.441223] omapdss HDMI error: failed to enable GPIO's

PandaBoard ES
HDMI connected to LCD TV

1.) Boot Ubuntu
2.) Arrive at Ubuntu GDM login prompt
3.) Successful authentication
4.) Black Screen, mouse cursor

Doesn't go any further.

Can you see if this issue also occurs with the latest saucy kernel:

and the two
linux-headers-3.11.0-0-generic_3.11.0-0.3_armhf.deb
linux-image-3.11.0-0-generic_3.11.0-0.3_armhf.deb

and it doesn't want to boot at all. I'll hook it up to console to see what error I get tomorrow. Were there other files I needed to install?

I reverted back to the 3.5 kernel. If I install lubuntu-desktop, I can login to LXDE fine. The omapdss error is still there but I can get a working desktop. I'm going to try to re-install the 3.11 kernel

Joseph Salisbury (jsalisbury) wrote : Please test latest development kernel (3.11.0-7.14)

Given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We are approaching release and would like to confirm if this bug is still present. Please test again with the latest development kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.
