Bug Description

This bug was reported to Gimp first https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704658
But I was asked to report it here because it could be distro specific.

Procedure to reproduce:
----------------------------------------
- Open the keyboard shortcuts dialog
- Type in something > 3 characters long
- backspace all the way

It takes a very long time, close to 30 seconds, to backspace till the last
character and type again.

Some system information:
----------------------------------------
$head -n1 /etc/issue:
 Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

$uname -a:
Linux srihari-laptop 3.2.0-51-generic-pae #77-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 24 20:40:32
UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

----------------------------------------
Not sure if this is useful, but when the keyboard shortcut dialog hangs, I see
this on my terminal:

(gimp-2.9:25194): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_tree_path_compare: assertion
'b->depth > 0' failed

Have you tested a ppa for GIMP instead of self compiling? I work with a ppa from GIMP 2.8.6 and can't reproduce this. This is on Ubuntu 13.04 raring.

But please don't forget Ubuntu only supports the packages from the software center.

Also having this issue with:
 *** 2.8.6-0precise1~ppa 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/otto-kesselgulasch/gimp/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Ubuntu 12.04.

Strangely, it happens only when the length of the string decreases to anything under 3. No matter if I use delete instead of backspace.

I have unmarked GIMP. I can't reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 13.04, but does this bug happen only on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

no longer affects: gimp

This issue has sat incomplete for over six years without any response to comment #5. I'm going to close it as being fixed as the problem was confirmed by more than one user and doesn't seem to have been reproducible for some time.
