Bug Description

During the step "Configure the network", the following error message pops up:

 No network interfaces detected

No network interfaces were found. The installation system
was unable to find a network devices

You may need to load a specific module for your network card,
if you have one. For this, go back to the network hardware
 detection step.

This error occurs in spite of both a wireless interface and an ethernet interface being present in the machine. The expected behavior is that the installer would detect both interfaces and ask which one to use, then use it.

It is on the 20130723.1 Alternate amd64+mac image.

It affects me, that is I get this message, but the installation succeeds, and the installed system has a working network system. We need to find out what is actually missing, what cannot be done.

I should add It affects me, that is I get this message, running the Lubuntu alternate *32-bit* installer.

I prefer that the system actually reads from the alternate ISO, installs from the ISO and then on reboot sees the internet. This goes back to when you could use an alternate ISO to upgrade a release.

Even if the packages during the initial installation come from the CD/DVD/USB drive, it is important that the net work on the first try. If nothing else, it shows that the installation will not be for nothing and that there will be functioning network upon completion. Without that initial confirmation, there's no guarantee that the net will work at all and rather than sink further time into trying that image another image or even another distro can be tried.

The amd64+mac Alternate image seems fixed too in the 20130725 build. It finds both network interfaces and asks which one to choose.

Changed in debian-installer (Ubuntu):
