My Email and firefox browser cannot be minimised on to the task bar and when i close it i have to restart computer to open another browser.

Normally when you open a program it also comes up on the task bar for minimizing and re opening from there but with ubuntu I cant do that.

Ross are you runing beryl or compiz or something like them? Please disable it if you are and see if that fixes your issue.
