Bug Description

The userlist could behave like Noise/Music's info pane, with a hide/show button on the bottom-right side on the main chat pane.

Bug reports should only contain one issue, so either split your ideas into multiple bugs or maybe create a blueprint. A mockup is always nice, too.

I'm nervertheless going to address some of your issues:

There is already a bug report asking for autoscrolling, and it's been confirmed.

A notebook is a bad idea. Often times people have ten or more channels open at the same time, and ordering them vertically is much cleaner than ordering them horizontally. Also tabs do not allow for the hierarchial structure we are using.

For an appmenu we would need a toolbar, and we decided against this, as a toolbar seems unnecessary for an IRC client.

A hideable user list seems nice, we just need a good way to do this.

The userlist could be hidden using the Music/Noise infopane method, which is a hide button that is in the bottom bar (where you have the add/minus/info/settings buttons). Of course you'd have to elongate that bar to the other side of the window.

A button in the Granite.HeaderBar (?) like in these Gnome mockups would probably be better since no additional toolbar would be needed: https://wiki.gnome.org/Design/Apps/Potential/Polari
