Bug Description

Since the last update of Linux header, at each startup on my 64 bytes machine with Precise 12.04, I've a message saying my display is not recognized. The startup is bloked until I accept to continue in low resolution.

Yesterday, I've updated my other pc, a 32 bytes also, with Precise 12.04, and the same issue appears.

Now, on both machines, the program System >> Preferences >> Display say the screen is unknow and the feature 'Detect the display' is not operating.

Note: the resolution on the two machines is exact (1600x900)

I join the two Xorg.log

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.11 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

kernel-bug-exists-upstream

I've tested the upstream kernel only on the 64 bytes.

Fixed, I've changed lightdm to gdm.

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm

Choose gdm in the dialog and reboot, that's all.

VinsS, as per http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page? an update is available for your BIOS (2AKT51A). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Thank you for your understanding.
