duplicate icons of removable media at startup

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 with the latest software updates. My problem is as follows:

Sometimes at startup (1 out of 3 times) I have duplicate icons for every inserted or plugged in removable media. This could be a DVD, CD or USB drive. One of these can be removed by 'Eject'-ing it, but the other one just stays where it is. These duplicates are visible on the desktop and in Nautilus They don't show up in Places or in an Open File dialog (for example in OOo Word).

The only way to prevent this from happening is not to have any media inserted/plugged in at startup. It doesn't occur afterwards (by adding/removing media).

This problem is also discussed at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=337817
