Bug Description

i installed mir display server through the ppa on http://unity.ubuntu.com/mir/installing_prebuilt_on_pc.html after following all instructions, even restarted lightdm, installed ubuntu fresh and installed mir again and this time rebooted the system. i must say.. its a tad less smooth than x as there is a very slight but noticeable delay in performance of the desktop. However, thats not the point
the dash is sllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.. its so slow i made tea and drank it cold and it was still loading up. it loads up alright.. for the first time since i installed ubuntu roughly 2 years back, i am lauching apps through the terminal. Overall, GOOD job.. But please fix the dash asap.. Thanks and have a nice day :)

Not sure whether mir or unity is correct target, but at least it's not qtdeclarative-opensource-src (Unity 7 doesn't use Qt).

Slow dash rendering is a hallmark of software-only rendering. This was a problem for a brief while in Mir due to permission problems with the direct rendering interface. Unity can not control how the graphics stack chooses its acceleration path so I'm marking this as invalid for Unity.

Krishnan,

Could you please:
1. Reproduce the slowdown, and then without logging out...
2. Copy /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and attach it here
3. Copy .xsession-errors from your home directory, and attach it here.
4. Run: glxinfo | grep OpenGL
    and attach the output here.

Krishnan,

Please follow the instructions in comment #4 again. Be sure to do the steps while still logged into the slow Mir session. Your log file in comment #6 seems to have come from a non-Mir session. It shows you were not running XMir at the time.

these are the only log files i have. i did a reinstall yesterday as my ubuntu desktop had become very unusable. it restarted very 5 seconds and the overall feel is slow. After the reinstall, there are no restarts till now.. but the desktop is pretty slow and the dash is as slow as when i reported the bug

OK, XMir is still not mentioned in the logs. So you're not using Mir and this is just a Unity issue.

I think this is probably the same issue as bug 1195692.
