Horizontal scrolling with mouse wheel tilt doesn't work

My mouse (Logitech M705 / MK700 / MK710) has a scroll wheel that also tilts horizontally, which I think is a pretty common feature these days. Windows 7 supports it natively - you can configure it to horizontally scroll x many characters on tilting, just like you can configure it to scroll vertically when scrolling.

I would expect Inkscape to scroll horizontally when I tilt the wheel, but nothing happens.

AFAIU upstream bug in GTK+, not specific to Inkscape:
