Bug Description

I recently got an Asus 1015e laptop and I cannot get a live USB to boot in UEFI mode. When I try to boot it I get to the Grub menu, but after selecting an option it just hangs at a blank screen. It looks like it doesn't loading anything, even the kernel. It just hangs immediately. The only way I've been able to get it to boot is to disable Secure Boot and enable CSM (legacy BIOS support) but this won't play nicely with a Windows 8 dual boot. I've tested with 13.04 and the 7-11-13 saucy daily image. The hardware details are here http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/1015E/#specifications

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1200986/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I don't think this is a duplicate of #1123403. Even if I disable Secure Boot it just hangs at a blank screen after selecting a boot option. I don't get any errors regarding a Secure Boot Policy Violation with it enabled so it doesn't seem to be related to Secure Boot. I am also not able to provide any logs as I cannot even get it to boot. I'm not sure if providing logs from a session booted with legacy BIOS support enabled will be helpful.

I just bought a Asus 1015e with Win8 on it (only OS available out-of-the-box for 1015e in France) and I'd like, if possible, to install a valid Ubuntu on it.
This bug seems to show that it is currently impossible to test Ubuntu on 1015e, am I right? Does anyone have some positive experience with Ubuntu on this 1015e ?

Just try the default process with the latest nightly build of Ubuntu Saucy amd64:
1. Made a bootable USB from ISO
2. Start EeePC 1015e hitting Escape
3. Chose "UEFI Generic Flash Disk"
4. Grib starts, and I select "Try Ubuntu without Installing"
5. Got blank (black) screen immediatly and nothing more is happening.

I removed the duplicate flag as comment #3 seems to show that both bugs are not directly related.

I could get LiveCD to work on Asus EeePC 1015e (win 8 pre-installed).
Fix for 1123403 was necessary to get it to work, I used a recent image of nightly build from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and I had to disable Secure Boot http://img2.uplood.fr/free/shic_188.jpg .
With secure boot disabled + recent image, liveCD did start normally.

Joseph Salisbury (jsalisbury) wrote : Please test latest development kernel (3.11.0-7.14)

Given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We are approaching release and would like to confirm if this bug is still present. Please test again with the latest development kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.
