Bug Description

White squares appears in blank sections of gnome panel. Problem started when upgraded libgtk-3-0 package. If I downgrade package to version 3.6.4-0ubuntu8, problem disappears. Next version which I was able to download is 3.8.2-0ubuntu1 and problem already is there.

Is this regression with gtk?
Or gnome-panel needs to be updated because of changes in gtk?

I believe this is not really a GTK bug (even though it probably was triggered by the GTK 3.8 update) because it doesn't affect the Adwaita theme.

New GTK versions do break GTK themes but I'm not sure anything can be done about that. Hopefully, they'll eventually get GTK where they want it and maybe the GTK 4 series won't be so disruptive.

Yes, it doesn't affect Adwaita, because it doesn't use gradient for gnome-panel. Installed gnome-themes-standard, changed gtk theme to adwaita, gnome-panel got simple black color as background.

I had changed Gtk+ Theme to Adwaita and it seemed better but many things became unreadable including Ubuntu Software Center.
When looking at that I could not tell one thing from another as I could not see any text.

I switched it back to Ambiance where it was in the first place. I have the white panels at top and bottom but, at least I can read text.
