[gutsy] fonts too big in Qt based apps

Bug Description

All my Qt based apps all of the sudden use fonts that are way bigger than they used to be in feisty. Konsole e.g. went from 80x30 chars down to 56x23.

The display resolution is 92x92 dpi according to xdpyinfo.

Forcing the font resolution in the fonts Kontrol Center Module does not change anything.

I am running gutsy with all current updates.

I confirm this bug.

In Gutsy, Virtualbox and HPLip Toolbox both have very too big fonts and they are QT. Resolution of the QT windows seems to be bigger than it was on Feisty.

No, the bug actually become worst than it was since the latest Gutsy updates. The bad Xorg dpi detection is today fixed.

In my case, only VirtualBox and HPLIP toolbox has VERY big fonts ( bigger than on the screenshot from my first comment ). HPLIP is in python-qt3.

I installed Konsole to test if I had problems but from now on, the fonts have normal size.

there should propably a /etc/qt3/qtrc file as in feistys libqt3-mt package ...

with content something like this:

[General]
GUIEffects=general^eanimatecombo^e
embedFonts=true
enableXft=true
font=Sans Serif,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
fontPath=\0
useXft=true
style=Plastik

especially the font-entry, of course. it worked for me.

I looked to apply the Björn workaround and it is not possible for Gutsy. There's no qtrc file in the /etc/qt3 directory, only qt_plugins_3.3rc and this file doesn't contain above data.

The bug is actually filled for qt-x11-free package but that package isn't in the ubuntu repositories. I think that there would be a more appropriate Package for this bug than qt-x11-free. Finding this would greatly help this bug report.

I set this bug has a duplicate of bug #145709 which has been nominated for Gutsy Release.

Contribution to that bug will surely be appreciated.
