Network applet creates invalid interfaces file

Bug Description

The latest Network applet appears to work happily, creating a connection to my
home wireless network. However, the format of the /etc/network/interfaces file
it generates appears to be incompatible with the rest of the system tools, such
as ifup and ufdown:

$ sudo ifup eth1
/etc/network/interfaces:27: too few parameters for iface line
ifup: couldn't read interfaces file "/etc/network/interfaces"

I'll attach my interfaces file as generated by the network applet (with doctored
WEP password)

No, netapplet doesn't write config - it's gnome-system-tools.
