Bug Description

This would mean you could create a directory of font samples & browse them very quickly with GQView or gThumb.

You can then uninstall the rarely needed fonts rather than bloat your font choosing dialogues.

Q. How is gnome-specimen different from the gnome font chooser dialog?

A. It's more convenient.

A screenshot is only at max one screen tall. With a list of fonts more
than 1 screen in length I now have to crop the window manager detail
out of 2 or more ss's & combine them hoping I got the dimensions &
alignment right.

Is there a simple way to get a pixmap of a treeview in a scrolled window?

Nope, and this is not the way to go either imho.

I have some UI mockups on paper for a "save font preview as image" feature. It basically saves a PNG of a single preview. This is also useful to create "header images" for e.g. web sites.

Now, if only I had time and motivation to implement it :)
