[Gutsy] rt2500 wireless card doesn't work

Bug Description

In feisty, my RT2500 WLAN card would work using the drivers from the rt2x00-legacy directory.
With gutsy, these drivers are gone. The drivers from the rt2x00 directory don't work at all, modprobe'ing them doesn't give any messages in dmesg.

I installed linux-image-2.6.22-7-generic and built the rt2xxx drivers using the hourly CVS snapshot:
rt2x00pci does not work
rt2500pci does work and that driver is installed by default as well, when building from source.

Why were the legacy rt2500 and rt2400 drivers removed in gutsy even when the original sourcecode builds and installes these (obviously for a reason, as we see)?

Linux-image-2.6.22-7-generic + linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-7-generic + linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-7-generic on AMD64 fails to contain an appropriate rt2500pci.ko for my WLAN card. rt2x00pci loads but does nothing.

Confirmed, I have exactly the same problem. This is really a show stopper bug! Hope it get's noticed before the release, there are quite some bugs about this already, and nobody seems to respond...

I've just booted with the latest daily livecd to create requested files. It still has the same problem, files will follow.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
