Errors in Update Manager

Twice since installing Mint 15 Cinnamon the Update Manager has failed with some pretty ugly error messages.

ERROR MESSAGE:

ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR
E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/packages.linuxmint.com_dists_olivia_backport_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Based on the advice here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=137640&p=735562#p735562 I ran:

sudo rm -fv /var/lib/apt/lists/*
sudo apt-get update

Which fixed the problem and allowed updates to work again.

Release: Linux Mint 15 "olivia"
Edition: Cinnamon 64-bit

Steps:

Run Update Manager
Refresh
Does not refresh; errors listed in bottom pane.

Fix:

Run:
sudo rm -fv /var/lib/apt/lists/*
sudo apt-get update

Update Manager refreshes and works as expected.

My apology for not capturing the error messages. My mistake. If/when it happens again I'll post them, but it seems to be happening to more than couple people.

Today had the same error, and ran the same commands, and again it fixed everything.
