Bug Description

As part of the calendar project for the President's Office they would like to a "Notes" section to the KARL calendar. This would be a space editable by the community moderators where events pending exact dates could be added so that members can see that they are there, but have yet to have their dates finalized. The first thing we need to do it get a estimated timeline and budget. I know it may change based on the exact implementation, but we need to give Bob a ballpark number. If given the go ahead, we would definitely want to start work on this in July because the idea is to have the Board Calendar up and running by the September Global Board meeting where it would be unveiled.

There has been a claim that the notes section should be visible all the time, but we should create few different mock-ups so we can get stakeholders to sign off on what they want when they actually see it. One should show what the calendar would look like with the Notes visible all the time, another should show what a Notes overlay would look like, so user's can expand it to see the pending dates and then minimize again. That we show a few options.

Nat, here's an idea: when viewing the calendar, replace the "Active People" portlet with a "Notes" (or "Pending Events") portlet.

This follows the pattern of being the Blog tool which has its own blog-unique portlet. Advantages:

- Always visible

- Won't require a big development effort

It probably isn't quite the user experience that might be wanted, but would likely be a lot "less" on a number of fronts, not just cost.

We would probably need a "More" link that let you see/manage more than just the handful in a portlet, but even that isn't required...we could just let the portlet height expand to however many are displayed.

Yep, I like that idea! Re-purposing what we have is definitely better than reinventing the wheel.

Updates from Nat:

- Make the portlet show all notes

- Notes don't have to be ordered, can just be sorted based on how they were entered (perhaps reverse chronological, newest at top)

Notes from the notes meeting with Nat:

- In the portlet, have an odd/even background color

- IE9 shows a bunch of red stars on the Add Note's Title field

Nat, it turns out we couldn't really do the odd/even color. The portlet styling on hover is to have rounded corners. Our UX1 implementation of rounded corners is...ancient. I couldn't find a way to avoid a square background with a rounded corner on hover. So instead I just added a little be of spacing in between items.

I will look at the IE9 issue later today.

Tres will try to close a couple more bugs on Monday which we will test on karlstaging and release on Tuesday. I will then get karlstaging updated to use the branch for this ticket in time for Nat to setup the calendar for evaluation on Wednesday.
