Bug Description

Seems that Image Preview don't have the support for direct image link (generic support so, here).
Therefore, clicking on a .png/.jpg/.gif image link (hosted anywhere than the supported services like pic.twitter.com or imgur.com) open a tab in the browser rather than showing the image directly in Image Preview (and showing a thumbnail in the timeline in addition therefore).

You can try with this direct .png link (here on a voluntarily less known images hosting service but can be on a dedicated OVH server for example, or whatever as we talk about generic .png/.jpg/.gif direct link here):

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
OS: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (with Cinnamon)
Birdie version used: the r268 from the DAILY repository
