Bug Description

I have reinstalled the system with Ubuntu and followed the instructions on the knowledge76 site on Restoring Your System. All has went well, but the Fn-F3 key will still not switch the displays around after the "acpi" service has started. It will switch them around before that service is started. I can also see in the /var/log/acpid file that the key stroke is being recognized by the line "received event "hotkey ATKD 00000061 00000033"". I am at a loss here now.

(other than the fact that one is a Gazelle)
A work around is listed on the other report.

Does the fix for Bug #116107 also apply to this bug? Or, Is there a fix for this in the latest System76 Driver?

No, there is not a fix for it in the most recent driver. I don't know that the fix for 116107 has been
applied to this bug. You might give it a shot, but I think the problem might be bios related.

Can you please confirm if the workaround/fix in Bug #116107 works or not. Or if the issue is still happening.

I do not have a gazv3 or 4 so am unable to test, just trying help weed out new/invalid bugs. :)

Yes, I have tried the suggestions in the link, but was not able to get
anything useful. The best thing I can do is to select the monitor
configuration I want with the fn-f3 keys before the acpid service starts.

Testing with Ubuntu 8.04 - 64-bit

The Fn-F3 key does produce a keycode, so if we can figure out what script switches the display settings, we should be able to create a patch.

WORKAROUND: If you go to System > Preferences > Screen Resolution, you can select the external monitor and set it's resolution. You may need to check the 'clone' box to start with, but then you can uncheck it. Using this method, you do not have to plug in the external monitor before booting.

The external monitor can also be accessed via the command line by running the xrandr command, such as...

xrandr --output VGA --auto

... and can be turned off with...

xrandr --output VGA --off

We are working on a script to toggle through the three primary lcd/external monitor configurations whenever the Fn-F3 button is pressed.
