Bug Description

When searching for software in the Software Center the search algorithm gives poor results making it very difficult to find the desired software or discover new software.

For example, searching "system monitor" the top result is the KDE System Monitor (ksysguard). Searching "Gnome System Monitor" the top result is Camera Monitor (cameramonitor). The only way to get the default Ubuntu system monitor to show up at all is to search the exact application name "gnome-system-monitor". The results are so bad that omitting even one of the dashes by searching "gnome-system monitor" will give no results at all!

These results are undesireable because even experienced users are unlikely to know applications by their binary file names. How many Ubuntu users know that Document Viewer's real name is Evince? In order to provide a better experience for new and experienced users the search results should be improved.

Setting to wishlist for now, we would all like better search but there are too many moving parts to attempt to resolve this in the currently cycle.

Changed in software-center:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

trying to resolve a flash player problem i come upon that issue.
Searching for 'adobe' wont return adobe-flashplugin
but 'adobe-' will do!

please correct that. new user will use the default software center to search & solve some issues so i think that should be get bigger priority.

thanks .
