MtPaint's man-page doesn't install correctly (man1/man1 instead of man1)

mtpaint's man page is currently in

/usr/share/man/man1/man1/mtpaint.1.gz

which was probably some mistake as it should be in

/usr/share/man/man1/mtpaint.1.gz

This error appears in Version 3.40-1ubuntu1 (Quantal, Raring and Saucy) Precise, Trusty.

Not using Ubuntu since a while ... so I can not test it.

Might be worth backporting V 3.40-2 since bug got fixed in Debian after 2 yrs. of time. ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.

The good news is that this was fixed in the corresponding Debian report, and I've verified that the manpage is installed and work as expected in mtpaint 3.40-2.2 on Ubuntu 16.04.
