Thanks for reporting.
I see from the corresponding Debian bug that this issue was fixed with the release of org-mode 8.0.6-1. I therefore believe this should be fixed in newer versions of the package, which means for Ubuntu 14.04 and later. I therefore believe this issue can be marked as resolved.
Additionally, I found that the documentation was shortly after moved to org-mode-doc which is available in multiverse for Ubuntu 14.04 and later.
