libkrb53 bugfixes should possibly provide their original version

Bug Description

krb5-user and krb5-clients in universe both depend on libkrb53 1.3.4-3.
libkrb53 in warty security is version 1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1. This causes apt to
de-install krb5-user and krb5-clients.

Either krb5-user and krb5-clients should depend on >= 1.3.4-3, or
1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1 should provide 1.3.4-3.

I'm experiencing the same bug. The package krb5-user is provided at version
1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1. It is in fact listed in the security update notification
email. The problem is the package is not listed in the Packages file (I posted
about it in the forums, here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=46998 ).

They need to rebuild their Packages file or something. There's no need to
change Provides or Depends.

Incidentally, workaround:

You can download the missing file. It's actually there, but as I said, not in
the Packages file. Download the file to your apt cache dir manually, then
apt-get install -d any other krb files you need to upgrade at the same time--I
only needed libkrb53 and libkadm55--then install them with dpkg -i.

$ cd /var/cache/apt/archives
$ sudo apt-get clean
$ sudo wget \
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/p...ntu0.1_i386.deb
$ sudo apt-get install -d libkrb53 libkadm55
$ sudo dpkg -i libkrb53* libkadm55* krb5-user*

I think this bug's priority should be bumped up...

It'll PREVENT APT from installing the security update.

I'm still not showing krb5-user even though bug 10183 is marked as closed. That
suggests to me that this is a different issue.

There is still no version of krb5-user in the Packages files. This bug is not
resolved.

Read bug #10183, and you will find instructions for how to correct the problem.

If you use the 'universe' component, you must also enable security updates for
that component.

In warty/universe, krb5-user 1.3.4-3 depends on libkrb53 (= 1.3.4-3). In
warty-security/universe, krb5-user 1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1 depends on libkrb53 (=
1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1)

This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 10183.

Any chance krb5-user could simply be added to the supported set of packages? It's not that much extra code to support relative to the libraries and it would greatly simplify the setup required to use Kerberos under Ubuntu (and the confidence with which one could use it). Also, krb5-user is referenced by krb5-docs which is in the supported set of packages, leading to some confusing errors if you try to "apt-get install krb5-user" without first configuring Universe.

(I know this doesn't have much to do with the bug report, but it would certainly obviate issues like this one in relation to krb5.)
