Bug Description

I was transfering some mp3 files over to my mobile device (Sony ericsson w810i) through usb (works as a normal usb device from what i see).
It causes nautilus to lock up, and while the transfer is going on:
- Can't browse my files on the hard disk
- It takes ages to load a new nautilus window (places > bookmarks > somefolder)
- Causes a lot of other programs to "jam" (wait a lot to be loaded), for example firefox or image viewer or rhythmbox player
- The load average is quite high

I managed to get a screenshot during the lockup, and a system monitor screenshot, which are attached along with /var/log/messages
The last time I did this was "Jun 3 19:45" as mentioned in the messages logfile

Is this normal? Do you believe it's a bug? Has anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions?
What is uninterruptible status?!

This is also a regression in Gutsy - 7.10, when trying to copy files it appears to transfer, try unmounting the volume for safe disconnect and hangs at the "Writing last files to device" box that appears bottom right.

Ah that's because it archives the files and it transfers them after a while :)
For the record, I hate that too, it takes much longer for the device to transfer data.

P.S. You or I could file another bug about that.

After looking at messages it appears that what you tried to do was put a file that was too big for the SD card, is this the case? And if so, it should know how big it has to be, and if too small, warn the user without causing a breakage. Also I am now on Hardy Alpha so I cannot confirm the problem I had with the transfers.

The problems had occured in Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty. In 7.10 Gutsy I haven't had any problems, except for the one thing that you mentioned, it takes a while to transfer the files, I guess this bug should be marked resolved or something.

And, sorry, I can't really remember if the files were bigger in total than the available free space on the memory card of my mobile phone , too long ago :)
In gutsy it displays an error if the filesize is bigger than the available free space.

P.S. I'll be joining you at Hardy somewhere around march :)
