Bug Description

Using my Merlin XU870 UMTS card makes the system hang, after inserting the card everything is ok with the following output from dmesg:

[ 905.558000] usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
[ 905.705000] usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

[ 906.629000] drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for airprime
[ 906.630000] airprime 4-1:1.0: airprime converter detected

[ 906.632000] usb 4-1: airprime converter now attached to ttyUSB5
[ 906.632000] usbcore: registered new interface driver airprime

But if I try to use the created serial device /dev/ttyUSB0 from my wvdial script the system hangs. I can reproduce this on two laptops (Thinkpad z60m and Fujitsu Siemens Amilo si1520)

i have the same problem on Thinkpad T60. Simply doing cat /dev/ttyUSB0 on two terminals hangs system. It seems that linux 2.6.21 has some fixes for Merlin XU870 - http://crypto.riken.go.jp/pub/linux/kernel.org/kernel/v2.6/snapshots/patch-2.6.21-rc3-git6.log

The bug went away with a newer kernel in gutsy. Follwing the bug in the Kernel Bug Tracker it was fixed in 2.6.20-16 (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7858).

Since this seems to be a bug special to the reported kernel version, I'm marking it as invalid.
