Bug Description

When I try to run gtk-gnutella 0.98.4-1 in Kubuntu 13.04 64bit, it doesn't actually run. 2 tasks are visible in the task manager, but I don't see anything else.
Launching from the console, I see this:
13-05-13 16:26:33 (INFO): gtk-gnutella/0.98.4 (2012-11-11; GTK2; Linux x86_64)
13-05-13 16:26:33 (INFO): using native malloc()
13-05-13 16:26:33 (INFO): INPUTEVT using customized I/O dispatching with epoll()
13-05-13 16:26:33 (INFO): language code: "en"
13-05-13 16:26:33 (INFO): using locale character set "UTF-8"
13-05-13 16:26:33 (INFO): primary filename character set "UTF-8"
13-05-13 16:26:33 (MESSAGE): D-BUS set up and ready for use.

And nothing else happens.

I have compiled and installed the fixed version from git and it now works. Can we now have a new package in the Ubuntu repositories?

This also happens on Xubuntu 13.10 i386 with gtk-gnutella 0.98.4-1. I get the following message when I launch gtkg from the command line:
zapman@xubuntu:~$ gtk-gnutella

***MEMORY-ERROR***: [2882]: GSlice: failed to allocate 504 bytes (alignment: 512): Cannot allocate memory

Aborted (core dumped)

(This was discussed on the SourceForge bug report Mark mentioned). Fortunately, compiling and installing gtk-gnutella 1.0 works just fine so it would be great to have this package updated.

Hi, i'm getting this too on the LTS version of Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu Precise. Will the version 1.0.0-1 fix be applied to older versions, such as the one I have installed (0.98.4-1)?

Thanks,

Chris.

I gave up waiting, downloaded the latest version using git and compiled it myself. It is extremely easy to compile if you follow the instructions.

Hi chris_debian,

I may be wrong but AFAIK the fix of version 1.0.0-1 won't be applied to older versions. The current release is 1.0.1 and I'd recommend compiling it from source or, as a last resort, using the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~zapman/+archive/gtkg

Alternatively, you can wait for the next Mint version: thanks to the upload of Luca Bruno, the debian maintainer, the next version will have gtkg 1.0.1.
