Bug Description

I tried to install the nvidia drivers from "additional drivers" (jockey-kde) or manually, and the nvidia drivres fail to load. The system always loads the Nouveau driver. Also, the nvidia-settings icon does not appear in the launcher menu. If I run nvidia-settings manually, I get this message:
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

If manually install the driver I get this in the terminal:
(Leyendo la base de datos ... 169259 ficheros o directorios instalados actualmente.)

I've tried with the versions 304, 313 and 319 from the Xorg Edgers PPA repository. I've tried with Ubuntu 13.04 kernels, and the mainline 3.9. I get the same problem with all combinations.

Originally I had installed the system with my monitor connected to my intel iGPU using the intel drivers. Now I have the monitor connected to the Nvidia card, and as I said before with nouveau works well.

It's not just Kubuntu. I'm on Ubuntu 13.04 64bit with same graphics card (Geforce GT 430) and have extactly the same problem.

It worked fine after initial upgrade to 13.04 from 12.10 but with the advent of Kernel 3.8.22, nVidia drivers fail to load. Using grub to load 3.8.21 kernel works perfectly.

Hello croaker.
Could you give details of your machine?
I've seen that in Ubuntu 13.04 there are many problems with notebooks with Intel CPU and nVidia graphics card. I suspect that this problem also may be related to desktop computers that have Intel processor with iGPU and of multi-GPU or multi-monitor features. My computer is an Intel i7-3770 on an Asus P8Z77-V LX.
