Provide method for de-selecting in List view

Bug Description
Say I have a number of files selected. There does not appear to be be a way to easily and quickly deselect all the currently selected files. Clicking white space works in grid view, but in other views (like list view), there may not be any available white space. ctrl-shift-a provides another way of deselecting but it is not very discoverable.
Perhaps a feature like a visual overlay in the bottom right of the window ("deselect all files") which can be interacted with, would provide a good way of dealing with this in single click mode?
