Bug Description

After installing Kubuntu 13.04 or 14.04, after resuming from suspend clicking buttons on the keyboard have no effect, as well as while I can move the mouse cursor icon around, clicking on a field does nothing. This is resolved by restarting. This happens using nouveau or NVIDIA drivers.

This does not happen when installing the kubuntu-desktop package after installing from the standard Ubuntu ISO.

Now even user/password is not displayed. Only desktop with opened windows when the system was set to sleep. Keyboard and screen is frozen, mouse pointer moves. Must shutdown using power button, which reacts immediately (no need to hold).

Maybe you can try to switch to console by Ctrl+Alt+F1~F6 then switch back to X by Ctrl+Alt+F7.

Confirm this issue on fresh installation of 13.04 (64bit) with all updates.
I only installed intel GPU drivers: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/

Same here. The lock screen is displayed but the keyboard and mouse are locked. I can't access the TTYs, though I can do a hard restart with M-SysReq-B.

I upgraded to 13.04 from 12.10. There were minor issues during the installation process, which I repaired the usual way with dpkg-reconfigure -a and apt-get install -f. Everything else seems to be in perfect working order. I am running the fglrx updates drivers and utilizing my discrete graphics card.

If I can provide any other useful data, or if something from apport might be helpful, please let me know.

This is happening to me as well, it started 2/3 months ago but as I was using my computer less I didn't really notice when exactly. I'm using 13.10..

Switching tty back and forth won't help. I've tried various dbus command to stop the lockscreen but with no luck so far.

Anything I can do to help, let me know, as it seems to be pretty easy to reproduce with my computer.

Antonio Sánchez, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Raring reached EOL on January 27, 2014.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Is this reproducible in the latest release of Ubuntu via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ?

If so, please execute the following via a terminal in order for the necessary debugging information to be attached:

UPDATE 12-6-2014 : Just in case it helps: Resume works perfectly using kubuntu-desktop in standard Ubuntu. Also, NVIDIA driver works perfectly using kubuntu-desktop, but using Kubuntu I must select Xorg driver, because choosing Nvidia one there is a risk to lose the system (wrong display).

Christopher, what I meant in my comment is that there is no bug running kubuntu-desktop on top of a standard Ubuntu installation, but the bug still lives in standard Kubuntu. Does it make sense? The bug should not be closed. I am restoring bug status and change bug title as well to make the point clearer.

Antonio Sánchez, as per http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61M_LE/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your BIOS is available (4601). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

No need to update BIOS. After upgrading to latest 14.10 and testing for a few days I can confirm the bug is over, at least in my case.

Only one detail: caret is missing when typing the password, and it seems controls can not navigated throgh tab key, but after clicking in password field I can now type the password.

Update: The reason why the caret is missing is because I'm using two screens and the system chooses as principal the one I usually switch off. The focus goes to the login dialog of this screen.
