Bug Description

On an approximately daily basis, compiz will sudenly start eating memory at a very fast rate until my system becomes unresponsive. Sometimes I am able to escape to run-level "1" and send SIGKILL to compiz, but often my system is swapping so hard it will take > 10 minutes get to a shell. The necessary reboots are a rather big pain (especially when my auto-save is @ 4:59 MM:SS out of 5:00 and I was hammering code for the last four minutes).

I have tried monitoring the memory usage and I have seen it growing rather slowly from ~ 80MB at bootup to 100MB after some hours, but then it will suddenly jump to GB's; I have never noticed it climbing until my system freezes up, and I have not been able to find a trigger for it.

Any help would be great. Right now I don't trust starting any work on my home desktop ...

That version has reached EOL since a while, so it will not receive update. If that issue still exist, report again using ubuntu-bug.
