Antonio, (and anyone else affected),

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time. Your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.

It would help us a lot if you could test on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once in a terminal:

apport-collect 1179915

and add any additional information that you think relevant. Alternatively, please confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can the report. If we do not hear from you this bug report will automatically expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Hi guys,
the problem no longer exists until trusty tahr.

I would like to reiterate that synaptic is a fundamental application for Ubuntu, since it allows to obtain a lot of information on package management that the software center does not give and is a valid alternative to using the terminal.

If I can add, a very useful function is that of real-time search for packages, which is obtained only by installing the apt-xapian-index package (python3-xapian), so it should be installed as a dependency.

Thanks again for everything you do.

Thanks Antonio, I think you meant that the problem no longer exists *since* Trusty Tahr. I'll mark this bug as "Fixed Released" since I now remember similar problems in other applications when using Unity so it may not have actually been a synaptic bug.

See bug 798437 for the reason why apt-xapian-index is no longer installed by default.
