Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

xserver-xorg-video-ati in Feisty Fawn using ATI Radeon 9200SE 64 MB AGP card broken. Xorg is unstable and crashes unless using the following:

Applicable Xorg.conf sections:

Section "Device"

Identifier "ATI Radeon 9200SE"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
VideoRam 65536
Option "BusType" "PCI"

EndSection

Without using: Option "BusType" "PCI" X crashes (freezes) at irregular intervals requiring a complete system reboot (Keyboard and Mouse Functionality frozen, Ctrl-Alt-Bkspce does not reset X). Using Option PCI X is completely stable.

This was the same in Edgy, wasn't it?

Can you please attach the full xorg.conf and an Xorg.0.log from running without the PCI option?

w4ett said somewhere else that this is a "8X AGP RV280 64MB 9200SE". However, this line from the Xorg.0.log (running AGP):
(II) RADEON(0): [agp] Mode 0x1f004e09 [AGP 0x1039/0x0741; Card 0x1002/0x5964]
indicates AFAICS that the card is running 4X.

I would suggest trying: Option "AGPMode" "8"
in xorg.conf

Please disregard previous log. I mistakenly attached wrong File...Sorry.

When I tried Forcing the card into AGP 8 mode X crashed upon system start before the login screen, but after the Ubuntu boot splash screens.
