On a completely up to date Feisty install, the firefox UI locks up completely on certain pages in news.yahoo.com. The following page is one of them: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070530/ap_on_bi_ge/china_markets;_ylt=Ao0ulGlDhAq1rxB0qgnsux7MWM0F

This appears to be related to the ad that automatically slides down the page as it's shown on the pages where this has occurred.

I can not reproduce this on an up to date Feisty system with Fx 2.0.0.3. Do you have any extension / themes?

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

I've not found a crash in /var/crash as the application was terminated by the desktop after repeated close events generated using the desktop. I'll see if I can't do that by hand using the process outlined in option 1.

The summary is incorrect: the UI locks up tight to the point where even window movement updates are spastic. I had to manually kill the browser process. I've sent what details I can to others who have responded.

I've spent time today trying to reproduce the problem I reported yesterday. It doesn't seem to be happening but I'll continue trying off and on.

One good data point - it was the GE "Ecomagination" ads. In firefox, they used to automatically slide the bottom edge downward, obliterating the article text and then retracting automatically. I would have to do a copy/paste to an editor to read the text that wasn't repainted. My guess is it's very poorly written javascript.

Now you have to mouse over a pointer on the bottom of the ad to get it to slide down. The problem with the link I sent you is that it's for a news article and they rotate through various advertisements so it's not that helpful. At least this way, you have a chance of reproducability if you can find a web-based cache of their site.

I've not seen it recurring. I suspect enough people bugged yahoo about bad page code. God knows they have enough annoying quirks in their ads. Thanks for the attention.

I've not seen the problem recur since the week reported. It was probably bad code on the part of yahoo news if there were no updates published to firefox. I've never seen it occur on any other site for the same browser/system.
