Thank you for your bug report. Why are you using the kernel 2.6.15-23, which is much older than the 2.6.20.15 one ?

Mr. Jerome Guelfucci,
The reason that I use Version 2.6.15-23 instead than the Default
2.6.20.15-386, ( the Default one ), is that the latter takes more than
140 seconds to bootup. With the First the time is reduced to
58 seconds. Still high but usable!.

Okay thank you, I assign this bug to the kernel package and the kernel team will handle it.

Please include the following additional information when using the latest kernel, if you have not already done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available here: <http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelProblems> Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the extremely delayed response. The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the kernel. It would be helpful if you could test the latest Hardy Alpha release: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. Thanks.

Mr. Ogasawara,
as per your suggestion I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.4 from Ubuntu 7.10
With this upgrade the Booting time is reduced to 90 seconds from from the 130 seconds that I was
experiencing with Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10.
But with 8.4 I still miss the graphic booting display. Now the shutting-down now is a text format.
Thanks for your interest,
yours,
Gaetano Arena

Hi G. Arena,

I know for the upcoming Jaunty development cycle a focus is going to be made on the time it takes to boot. Hopefully you'll see even more improvements. Regarding what appears to be a usplash issue you are now experiencing, it would actually be better to open a new bug report. It's helpful to the development teams if bug reports target one specific issue. Additionally, it would be good to test the even more recent Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release that just came out. However, for now I'm going to go ahead and close this specific bug against Feisty. The reason is that the 18 month support period for the Feisty Fawn 7.04 release has reached it's end of life - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.04-end-of-life . Thanks.
