Significantly, perhaps, I had boot-repair setting acpi off at the time - process running - in order to try to find my usb storage, which It did, whilst losing my wifi ...

You may need to run the following:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.
